Whole School Mental Health

Main Points of this Section:

  • Mental health refers to students' overall wellness, dealing with emotional stress, and providing a comforting environment at school.
  • Mental health and wellness are important on a school wide basis.
  • All staff should be incorporated in ways to keep the school's mental status stable.
  • In the event of a crisis, there should be a school wide plan of what to do, what to talk about, and a lock down plan (if necessary).

School Incident Crisis Intervention Plan

  • Tennessee's government provides school wide plans for a time of crisis. It provides duties and obligations for everyone in the school. With this plan in action, the whole school's mental wellness is being maintained.

A Checklist for School Personnel to Evaluate and Implement the Mental Health Component of your School Crisis and Emergency Plan

  • This is a great tool because actions are so clearly planned out that all schools could adopt this implementation checklist. There are four main categories that have checklists to correlate with: Mitigation and Prevention, Preparation, Response, and Recovery. Used as suggested, these checklists cover all the bases to create a mentally sound and safe school environment.
