Zoo Camp

Camp Description:

Zoo Camp is an interactive educational experience for children in which children can learn about the zoo’s animals, the environment and conservation programs that the Akron Zoo participates in to protect endangered and vulnerable species. Camps range from three- to five-day sessions and include a tour of the zoo with a Zoo Camp coordinator; a chance to meet staff and animal keepers; close encounters with animal ambassadors; a T-shirt, photos and souvenir; a daily snack and a take-home craft. All camps are broken down into different age categories. Six- and 7-year-olds can choose from In My Garden, Winging It or Animal Theatre; ages 8 and 9 can choose Radical Reptiles, Eat This! or Back off Jack; ages 10 and 11 can select between Animal Enrichment or Working at the Zoo; and ages 12-14 can attend the three-day session Zoo Vet. The zoo also will offer a special program for youths ages 15 and 16 to become a Junior EdZoocator and assist staff with Zoo Camp activities for younger children. All sessions are limited to 15 campers, and reservations must be made in advance. Fees range from $50 to $90, depending on the length and type of camp. Discounted rates are available for zoo members.
