Getting Your Summer Program Started

• Begin planning your summer program at least one academic year in advance.

• Budget the cost of the summer camp.

• Pick a location for your camp to be held.

• Select dates and times the camp will commence and complete. (Hint:  How long will the program run, what time will the students need to be dropped off and picked up).

• Determine the price of tuition at your camp if you are charging tuition.  (Hint:  Check the tuition costs of camps in your local area to help gauge your price).

• Prepare staff training sessions.

• Create your staff (Examples:  Director, Assistant Director, Classroom Teacher, and Councilors).

• With professional classroom teachers/administrators create a curriculum for your summer program.

• Make arrangements with any special guests/visiting professionals coming to the camp.

• Make arrangements for any field trip transportation.

• Decide how many students you are going to admit to your summer program.

• Send flyers home to parents through local schools in the area in which you live.
