In the world of Bilingual Education, there are four types of Bilingual Education: English Immersion Instruction, English as a Second Language Instruction, Transitional Bilingual Education, and Two-Way Bilingual Education. - English Immersion Instruction is given entirely in English. Lessons are delivered in simplified forms when necessary in order to teach both English and academic content. - English as a Second Language (ESL) Instruction is primarily given in English, just as English Immersion. However, students may receive extra help using their native language outside of the classroom, such as a special class to help with English skills. - Transitional Bilingual Education is opposite of ESL. Instruction is primarily in the student’s native language, but the students may receive extra help in English to help develop their English skills. - Two-Way Bilingual Education is given in two languages to the students in order for them to become proficient in both languages. Note: Most schools throughout the United States use the English as a Second Language approach.
