Winton Woods City Schools Superintendent Camille Nasbe wants her students to have an international perspective to their education. She has promoted this aim through the district to teachers and through curriculum as well as international partnerships with Chinese schools. The Winton Woods District also has taken advantage of visiting faculty from China to provide classes on Chinese language and culture to interested members of the community. They also had a summer camp for 25 visiting students from a Chinese Middle School and 25 students from Winton Woods. During their 15 day visit the delegation of Chinese students and staff participated in recreational, cultural, computer and language activities.
This article gives information on how and why WWHS sent their premier chorus to China in spring 2008. From the initial contact to fundraising, this article can provide ideas and reasons for the importance of international perspective.
Each year students at WWHS create a Museum of Human Rights with PowerPoint presentations, music and posters to aid awareness of pressing world issues. They don’t stop at just the problems, also giving ideas and resources attempting to solve the problems.
