The purpose of this resource:
This resource is meant to provide teachers who wish to take students abroad with a basic understanding of what that entails. We hope that through this website teachers can become informed with the sort of steps that are necessary in developing a positive experience for their students. However, it is important to realize that this resource is not all inclusive. While the information provided in the areas of programs, fundraising, liability, and cultural sensitivity is extensive, do not forget that there are many others areas that need to be dealt with when organizing a trip. We recommend using this resource as a starting point.
Why take trips abroad?
Not all lessons can be taught through a textbook. Teachers of foreign language know all too well that learning a language can be extremely difficult without cultural, interactive and challenging experiences within the language and country. Taking trips abroad serve as a stimulus to challenge the students to discover the language outside the textbook. It is important as a teacher to reveal cultural diversity in order to create a better worldview and global citizen in the youth. Trips can also simply be a fun and unforgettable experience. Who wouldn't want to go on a trip abroad!
