What Does Social Networking Mean for Parents?

Social networking allows your child to get to know his/her friends, and nowadays almost better than in person! Sites and programs like those in the sections listed above allow children in today's world to exercise their communication skills while still maintaining a degree of separation from the social agenda. The sites and programs can help you get in contact with your child's inner self, and can help you communicate with them in ways previously impossible.

With all the positive influence that social networking sites show, it's possible to think that they are the best thing in the world. It is therefore unfortunate that these sites are the most prominent targets of cyber-predators and bullies throughout the social networking community.

In order to monitor adolescent's social networking tendencies, many companies have come up with software that allows parents to manage their child's technological interactions. This software, called Parental Control Software, allows parents to control various aspects of their child's access to networks. They can control any of these processes: Filtering content to ensure age-appropriateness (pornography, gore, general vulgarity), forbid certain types of usage (inappropriate programs/downloads, videos, etc...), and track location and activity (cell-phones and internet history).
