The most significant factor that determines whether students successfully achieve in school is their classroom teacher. For this to be implemented in a way that is conducive to an urban school, teachers must build their lessons around the realities of urban homes and neighborhoods.
How to Be an Effective Urban Teacher
1. Understand the culture of poverty in which many students live. 2. Apply cultural teaching, bringing students home life and school work together in the daily classroom. 3. Be dedicated and determined to establish and expect all students to achieve high academic standards. 4. Maintain equal treatment of all students regardless of race, achievement, or reputation. 5. Have the ability to motivate the most unmotivated students with creative lessons.
