Severe & Multiple Disabilities
People with severe disabilities are those who traditionally have been labeled as having severe to profound mental retardation.
These disabilities do not appear very frequently, but they do require extensive support in more than one major life activity.
Less than 1% of all students served under IDEA fall into this category.
Disabilities of this nature include
Traumatic brain injury
Combination of Deaf/Blindness
Characters of this disability include
Limited speech or communication
Difficulty in basic physical mobility
Tendency to forget skills through disuse
Trouble generalizing skills from one situation to the next
