Definition of Inclusion
Inclusion tries to establish collaborative, supportive, and nurturing communities for learners. It is based upon giving all students services and accommodations they need to learn, as well as respecting and learning from each other’s individual differences.
Principles of Effective Inclusion
1. Diversity of learners in the classroom.
2. A strong focus and sensitivity to the individual needs of the students.
3. Reflective practices by teachers.
4. A collaboration among teachers, administrators, students, and parents.
Least Restrictive Environment
Inclusion stems from the idea of the least restrictive environment (LRE). The least restrictive environment is defined as the place where a child can best learn. The LRE is determined by each individual student’s needs.
