Podcasting is web feed, consisting of audio, video, and other media files that are placed on the Internet for anyone to download.

Learning at school should be fun and interesting to students, podcasting gets students excited.  Podcasting can be used as a tool to get students engaged and motivate their writing and communication skills.  Teachers should view podcasting as a valuable educational instrument helping students to learn important literacy skills.

Podcasting is also great for teachers! If there is a particularly hard lesson that students seem to struggle with, then teachers have the ability to make a podcast with further explanations. Students can take these podcasts and listen to them at their own pace.

Benefits of Podcasting to the Classroom:

1.    Podcasting is cost effective.  The school budget is something teachers have little or no control over.  Once the hardware, software, and other podcasting equipment is purchased, it can be used again.

2.    Podcasting promotes a variety of audiences.  Since podcasts are posted on the Internet, many different audiences can access them.  This helps motivate students' writing.  Students can become passionate and excited about their work when they realize people other than their classroom teacher are responding to and listening to their ideas.

3.    Podcasting provides a picture into the classroom.  Podcasts allow parents, teachers, students, and others to get an in-depth look at what the students are studying and learning.  The students' blogs provide insight into the minds of students and a look at the educational environment.

4.    Podcasting taps into students' creativity.  Podcasting can be a creative canvas to inspiring students to think deeper, in addition to expressing and sharing their ideas.  This also helps students to start thinking outside the box.

5.    Podcasting is fun.  Teachers are always looking for ways to motivate and inspire their students, podcasting is one way teachers can reach students helping their learning and communication skills to grow.

6.   Podcasts can be used by the teacher to help struggling students understand something that is difficult for them.

7.)   Podcasts allow students to learn at their own pace rewinding and fast forwarding when needed. This can be a great benefit to all students.
