TESOL/NCATE standards for teaching English as a second language
Below is a link to a pdf file to read further on the standards for the accreditation of ESL teacher programs. The diagram is a visual representation of what teachers are able to do in order to be certified to teach in an ESL classroom.
English language teachers may access information on English Language Standards, find lesson plans for the elementary, middle, and high school levels, participate in web seminars, find information on professional development opportunities (such as conventions hosted by professional organizations in the field), etc.
• Users may find articles specific to aiding and teaching English Language Learners by typing “ELL”, “ESOL”, or “TESOL” into the Google Custom Search field in the upper right corner of the AdLit.org’s main page. There are many great articles related to this particular sector of language education.
• Educators may choose to subscribe to AdLit.org’s newsletter, Word Up!, which is distributed by e-mail on a monthly basis.
• Teachers can access research relating to literacy in general or pertaining specifically to literacy and ELL.
• Many reference books related to teaching English Language Learners are available for purchase on the organization’s on-line bookstore.
• This is a bilingual web resource for educators and Spanish-speaking families of English Language Learners in our schools from grades PreK-12.
• Teacher resources: reaching out to English Language Learners and their families to maximize success and information on teaching language and reading, core subjects, and methods of effective assessment.
• Parent resources: how to assist children in learning and promote success in school, reading activities that can be done in the home, and how to build successful parent-teacher relationships.
Users click on EXPERT SERIES and can view abstracts of each lecture. In order to watch the video, simply click on the Video Lecture link. For each video, there is also an outline that you can either pull up in full or it pops up on the screen for you to view while watching the video lecture.
