Technology and Multigenre

There is a new wave of technology creeping upon us, and teaching is also feeling its effects. Students are constantly on their computers, searching and downloading extreme amounts of music, movies, pictures, etc. It is important for the next generation of teachers to be able to harness this interest in technology and use it to the student's advantage!

Moreover, multigenre papers can easily be transposed into a technological presentation. Multiple genres exist in technology, such as pictures, music, text fonts, video clips, and voice-overs. Any creative television show, documentary, or other showcase of multimedia is the perfect example of this happening, and with technology in classrooms, students will also be able to produce high-quality multi-media projects.

Here is a list of the newest and most frequently used technologies which teachers can use in and outside of their classrooms for maximum engagement and learning for students.

Podcasts

This forthcoming technology allows participants to combine voice, pictures, and videos to tell a certain story, to showcase a project, and to inform others about literally anything. The possibilities are endless with the all-in-one technological format.

Videos

The production of videos with graphics, text, pictures, music, and voice-overs is becoming increasingly easy and fun to do. With programs such as "iMovie" on Mac computers and Windows Movie Maker on PC's, students are able to creatively express their work.

Music

Students are constantly listening to music, and a great way for them to express their reactions to literature or their own writing is through music. Students can use music as a "genre" in their papers, creating a visual and auditory multigenre experience.
